07 · About the desk
A useful magazine
with its receipts.
PrisonFree exists to make the first steps after incarceration easier to see, understand, and take.
What we publish
We publish original essays, reported explainers, and practical guides about reentry: work, housing, health, legal questions, family, transportation, education, and belonging.
Some narrative pieces are composite or illustrative. When they are, we label them clearly. We never present an invented person as a documented real-life interview.
How we choose resources
We begin with public agencies, established nonprofits, and organizations that publish their own service information. We record the organization’s purpose, geography, and public contact path, then link directly to the source.
Because programs change, every listing carries a reminder to confirm eligibility, hours, and availability before traveling or sharing sensitive information.
